HAZMAT Insurance Included in IPSSA Liability Insurance

Truck Spill

A chemical spill from an overturned pool service truck closed the northbound lanes of I-15 at I-8 in San Diego on August 3rd. The California Highway patrol reported that approximately 20 gallons of murietic acid and chlorine spilled onto the freeway resulting in a sig-alert.

The man behind the wheel of the 2001 Ford Ranger was reported to be 26-year-old Jake McKinney of San Diego, who lost control of the truck for unknown reasons just south of Interstate 8 about 1 p.m., and it crashed into a center wall.

Haz-Mat clean up expenses are typically charged to the driver, but most truck insurance policies provide no coverage for this type of claim.

Arrow Insurance Service includes Hazardous Material Clean Up Insurance on many of its commercial liability policies and this coverage is included for all members of the Independent Pool & Spa Service Association ("IPSSA").

Chapter Representative Election

IPSSA National By-Laws state that each chapter shall elect one representative to attend the regional meetings with the President for a two year term. We will hold this election at the February meeting. Anyone interested in running for this position will be allowed a few miinutes to address the members at the meeting before the vote.

SWPS Pool Show Volunteers and Quarterly Meeting

The SWPS Pool Show and the IPSSA Region 9 quarterly meeting will be held in San Antonio this weekend. The Corpus Christi chapter (along with one other chapter) is responsible for manning the IPSSA booth during the show hours. The following have volunteered to help man the booth: Allen Aaron, Jodi Goike, Olaf Johansen, Mike Baker, and Brian Doggett. Our chapter will be paid per man hour on a pro-rated basis from the profits (if any) from the show. The Region 9 meeting will be held Friday evening. All members are welcome to attend. We have two rooms (as we are required to have for each quarterly meeting). Mike, Olaf and Brian will be sharing one room and Allen and his wife will be in the other room. There will also be a dinner after the meeting on the River Walk. Everyone is welcome, although we are each responsible for the costs of our own meals and drinks. Thanks to everyone that volunteered to help out!
